Why You’re Manifesting Money but Not Receiving It (& How to Fix It)

By Samantha Warren

There are so many women asking the Universe for more money, more abundance, and more blessings… and then sitting on the couch at home not doing jack about it.

Business owners are guilty of this too, and I say that with so much love, because I want you to get everything you want in this world. Consider this post a little pep talk.

So let me ask you something. If your dream client or your dream job opportunity landed in your lap tomorrow, would you be ready for it?

Would that client know how to pay you? Is your resume updated? Is your portfolio updated?

If you’d have to scramble, keep reading, because today we’re talking about the difference between wanting more money and actually being ready to receive it.

If you’d rather watch than read, the full video is right here:

Wanting more money and being ready to receive it are two different skills

I know so many women who are doing the inner work around money. They’re writing the affirmations, journaling daily, and visualizing the million-dollar mansion, the yacht, the rich husband, or whatever it is for them. What they haven’t done yet is prepare themselves to accept that level of abundance, or show the Universe they’re ready by taking action.

Wanting more money is the desire. Being structurally available to receive it is a whole separate piece, and it’s the one most manifestation advice skips. In business, that looks like this: if nobody knows exactly what you’re offering, if you can’t explain the value in one sentence, or if there’s no clear way to buy, the sales have nowhere to come from.

It also looks like the moment someone offers you more money and you won’t take it. Say you’re negotiating with a client, and before they’ve even pushed back, you lower your rate to close the deal or make it more affordable for them. You said you wanted more money, and the second someone had the chance to give it to you, you handed it back.

What an identity leak around money looks like

I have a name for this. An identity leak is a pattern you keep repeating that quietly contradicts what you say you want, like discounting when you’re trying to earn more. Around money, identity leaks tend to show up as undercharging, procrastinating on promoting your offer, and structural gaps in your business that make it a lot harder to receive the abundance you’re asking for.

I’ve been in my industry for 10 years, five of them self-employed, and I’ve worked with 100+ clients across SaaS, healthcare, personal brands, restaurants, hotels, the full range. One thing I’ve learned from all of it is that undercharging for your services goes much deeper than pricing.

MY OWN EXAMPLE: THE UPWORK PROFILE THAT PROVED I WAS GOOD (AND STILL DIDN’T MAKE IT EASIER)

When I first started my business, I freelanced on Upwork, and that’s primarily how I got my clients. I eventually grew my profile to over $80,000 earned through the platform and earned the Top Rated Plus ranking. I had concrete evidence that I was good at what I did. I got great results for my clients, and they had a good experience working with me.

Even with all that evidence, I still felt reluctant to raise my prices. There were so many times when charging more or asking for the sale felt harder than it should have. Confidence is only part of it, because you can have glowing testimonials and years of experience and still feel your body tense up the moment you actually ask for more.

I’ve had so many colleagues tell me the same thing. No matter how many strategies they learn, how educated they are, or how many years of experience they have, these money mindset patterns still creep in… and women especially do this.

THE $2,000 TO $4,000 SCOPE CREEP

Here’s a hypothetical you might recognize. A woman raises her package price from $2,000 to $4,000, and her instinct is to immediately add more deliverables and bonuses to “justify” it. All of a sudden there’s massive scope creep in that offer. From the outside, this looks like generosity and great service, five stars, a woman who really cares about her clients. It can be all of those things. More often than not, though, that overcompensation is coming from fear and scarcity rather than an abundance mindset.

If you’re reading this and a moment already came to mind (the discount you offered before anyone asked, or the bonus you tacked on at the last minute), hold onto it. I’m sharing two ChatGPT prompts below to help you look at it more closely, and at the end I’ll tell you about my free 3-day challenge.

Why so many of us prove first and receive second

I believe a lot of women inherited the same set of rules without even realizing it:

  • Don’t be difficult.
  • Be easy and helpful.
  • Be grateful for the money you’re earning.
  • Don’t make anyone regret choosing you.
  • Make yourself worth the trouble.

I’m a recovering people pleaser, so if you are too, you probably felt every one of those. Those messages are very present in our personal lives, and they don’t disappear when we start businesses. They get carried right over into every client relationship, and then the sequence becomes proof first, receiving second.

Receiving is your birthright, and you don’t have to earn permission to earn money. If you let that proving belief shape your business, you’ll always have a ceiling built into what you can earn. So whenever you’re ready to scale, the proving mentality has to go. You’re great as you are, and you’re worthy of receiving exactly as you are. Please don’t forget that.

INTEGRITY VS. PROVING YOURSELF

I want to be clear about one thing, because there’s a real difference between having integrity and proving yourself. You should always care about your work and strive for excellence. The boundary gets drawn at overcompensating, at trying to prove you’re valuable just so nobody regrets choosing you. That looks like:

  • Sending the proposal with a discount already baked in before they even ask.
  • Finishing the work and then adding even more bonuses because you’re scared they won’t be happy with it.
  • Taking on extra responsibility at work without asking for more money because you don’t want to be difficult, until “being helpful” turns into burning yourself out at your own expense.

These are all different situations with the same pattern underneath: “I’ll give more of myself so that I’m allowed to receive more.” We’re getting rid of that today, babe, because if you want to scale your business to infinity and beyond, you can’t be thinking that way.

Key #1: Your willingness to receive

Let’s talk about worthiness. The woman who asks for more money is exactly as worthy of receiving it as you are. She may not be smarter, more talented, more beautiful, or more valuable in any way, and what she does have is a willingness to receive it.

You’ve probably heard the saying that there’s someone out there who’s half as smart as you, making twice as much as you, doing exactly what you dream of doing. That saying is so powerful and so true, because it shows how much of this comes down to your willingness to receive, far more than your value or your talent.

So if you’re overworking and still not getting the results you want, chances are the missing piece is your willingness to receive the abundance you desire, far more than the effort you’re putting in.

PROMPT #1: FIND YOUR RECEIVING PATTERNS

Because we love using AI around here (and it’s such a powerful pattern recognition tool), here’s a prompt to help you look at your own patterns around receiving:

“I want to receive more money in my business, but I suspect some of my repeated behaviors may be making it harder for me to do that. Here are a few examples of what I notice myself doing around money, pricing, sales, and clients: [write your examples here]. Before you give me any analysis, ask me five clarifying questions. Ask them one at a time. Wait for my answer before asking the next one, and use each response to determine what you need to understand next.”

The goal here is to recognize the patterns in the data you’re giving ChatGPT. Think of it as a way to look at your own information at a higher level, and in a more organized way than you could on your own, rather than an oracle or a counselor that makes things up or diagnoses you with a money block.

Key #2: A channel for the money to reach you

That covers the mindset side. Now let’s talk about structure, because the Universe needs a channel to pay you through.

Sure, you could get an unexpected check or find a dollar on the ground, but we don’t want to rely on that kind of luck, right?

The Universe can absolutely bless you with luck, and you can amplify your abundance by giving the Universe a channel to pay you through.

You could do all the identity work in the world and be fully ready to receive $10,000 tomorrow, and if there’s no way for that money to reach you, it’s probably not going to arrive. This is where manifestation meets infrastructure, and it’s one of my favorite things to help small business owners with.

DRAW YOUR MONEY PATH

If I asked you to draw a picture of the path money takes through your business, could you do it? Grab a sheet of paper and see if you can answer every one of these:

  • Who is the person your business serves?
  • What problem does she know she has?
  • How does she discover you?
  • What are you offering, and can she actually understand what you’re offering? (That’s a big one.)
  • Can she buy it? Can she click the buy button, check out, and enter her payment information, or is there a glitch, a bug, or a weird workaround?
  • What happens after she buys? Does she get a welcome email, a thank you email, a next step, an upsell?

If you can’t draw that path from start to finish, you have a structural problem to fix, because if even one of those pieces is missing, the money doesn’t have a clear place to go.

You can have lots of followers, lots of attention on your business, and the most aligned, purposeful, fulfilling work in the world. Attention, followers, and alignment can all support revenue. There still has to be a way to turn someone’s desire into a transaction.

PROMPT #2: AUDIT YOUR MONEY CHANNEL

If you’re not sure where your path is breaking down, here’s the prompt I’d use:

“I want to receive more money through my business, and I want to understand whether I have actually built a clear enough path for that money to reach me. Here’s what I currently sell, how people usually discover me, how I talk about my work, how people inquire, how they buy, how I deliver, and where I think the process may be breaking down: [add your details here]. Before you analyze my business or recommend any changes, ask me five clarifying questions. Ask them one at a time. Wait for my answer before asking the next one, and use each answer to decide what information you need next. After question five, map my current money channel as simply as possible: person → problem → discovery → offer → buying path → delivery. Show me where the channel appears clear, where it appears weak or missing, and what one change would give me the most useful real-world feedback this week.”

The more details you give it, the better the response will be. And please don’t overcomplicate this or ask it for a huge report you’ll never use. The goal is to find the one leak in your money channel right now, so you can patch it up and give the money a place to flow through.

Your manifestation needs a container

My whole philosophy on manifestation, especially for entrepreneurs, is that your manifestation always needs a container to hold it. That’s why I see manifestation and business strategy as two intertwined disciplines.

You can ask the Universe for premium clients, and if you refuse to say that premium price out loud, it makes sense that you’re not closing them at that price. You can ask for more freedom in your business, and if every offer you create relies more and more on your personal time, you’re boxing yourself in. That’s why I look at manifestation from both sides, with two questions:

  • What am I available for internally?
  • What have I made possible externally?

FAQ

1) Why am I manifesting money but not receiving it?

Usually it’s one of two things, and often both. Either an identity leak is getting in the way (like discounting before anyone asks, or adding bonuses to justify your price), or there’s a gap in your business structure, so the money has no clear path to reach you. Look at your willingness to receive and your money channel together.

2) What is an identity leak?

An identity leak is a pattern you keep repeating that quietly contradicts what you say you want, like discounting when you’re trying to earn more. Around money, identity leaks often show up as undercharging, overdelivering to prove your worth, or putting off promoting your offer.

3) Should I just raise my prices?

Raising your prices can be great advice, and it’s only part of the picture. If you raise your price and then immediately pile on extra deliverables, or discount the moment a client hesitates, the new price won’t hold. Work on your willingness to receive the new price and make sure the path to buying it is clear.

4) What is a money channel?

It’s the path money takes through your business: the person you serve, the problem she knows she has, how she discovers you, your offer, how she buys, and what happens after. If any one of those is missing or unclear, the money has nowhere to go.

5) Can ChatGPT tell me if I have a money block?

I wouldn’t ask it to. ChatGPT can only work with the information you give it, so use it to organize your own examples and recognize your patterns, and always ask it to ask you clarifying questions one at a time before it gives you any analysis.

Here’s what I want you to take away…

Asking the Universe for more is one step in the process. You also need a place for the money to land, and that comes from two things working together: your willingness to receive and a clear channel for the money to reach you. You get to become the woman who says her price out loud, lets it stand, and has a path ready for the money when it shows up.
