They say “mindset is everything,” but what does that mean? What mindset shifts can you make to improve your lifestyle and mental wellbeing?
Well, I personally believe that mindset is almost everything. Sometimes bad things happen in life, and they suck. But even if you’re in a funk, you can always find something positive to focus on.
I say mindset is almost everything because I don’t think you should expect to feel like everything is perfect if you’re in a bad situation. That’s unrealistic. But with a few mindset shifts, you can feel happier and get yourself out of the bad situation you’re in. That’s what this post is all about!

1. Choose to be positive.
Negative thoughts cause sadness and stress. When you adopt a positive mindset, your life will improve, even if you’re in a less-than-ideal situation.
Having a positive mindset means expecting that things will work out in the end, and you will achieve happiness and success. Even though there’s so much negative energy out there, you ultimately choose how to perceive the world around you.
When you cultivate a positive attitude, you will feel day-to-day positive emotions. You’ll be able to block out the negativity you see on TV and social media. You’ll also become more resilient, and you’ll be able to get back up when you fall.
Here are some actionable tips to cultivate a positive mindset:

2. Learn to love yourself.
Self-love is important because it encourages you to make healthy and beneficial decisions. When you truly love yourself, you will do what’s best for you and live a fulfilling life.
Let’s clear up a common misconception: self-love isn’t selfish. In fact, it’s important for you to put your needs before the needs of others (at least some of the time).
By putting yourself first, you will become a better friend, lover, and family member. After you take care of your own needs, you will be able to help others without feeling resentful or neglected. When you’re happy and satisfied, you will be able to give more to the people you love.
Self-love is crucial if you want to become the highest version of yourself. So, go ahead and treat yourself! Your wants and needs are valid.

3. Develop a growth mindset.
Having a growth mindset means you believe you can always continue to improve, even if it’s only in subtle ways. You won’t ever be a finished product. You’ll think of yourself as a work-in-progress, and you’ll recognize that there’s nothing wrong with that.
Part of having a growth mindset means accepting yourself the way you are now. You won’t put yourself down for being “not good enough.” You’ll focus on self-improvement, and you’ll encourage yourself to grow and change instead of belittling yourself.
A growth mindset will empower you to work toward your goals instead of doubting yourself or feeling like you’re stuck.

4. Become more open-minded.
What is the point of judging others? Judgment is a negative feeling. Instead of focusing on the bad qualities in others, try to find something good to celebrate.
No one is perfect. Our imperfections make us all unique. And even if you don’t like certain qualities, other people might find those same qualities valuable.
You will raise your vibration when you open your mind to new perspectives and ideas instead of judging other people. Besides, you’re better off focusing on your own success and happiness instead of worrying about what others are doing.
Even if you don’t realize it, your inner world creates your outer world. Your thoughts and feelings will affect your lifestyle on the outside. Those things don’t just stay in your head.
You should strive to fill your mind with positive thoughts instead of negative ones, regardless of whether you’re thinking about yourself or other people.

5. Be mindful of your health.
Eating healthy food and exercising regularly will lift your mood. Did you know that your mental and physical wellness directly affect each other?
I’m not telling you to go on a crazy crash diet or start running five miles per day. (But if you do run that distance daily, props to you!)
All I’m saying is to be mindful of how you treat your body, and take care of it to the best of your ability. When you become more conscious of your health, you will improve your whole lifestyle.
