Are you too busy to do things that make you happy? I know the feeling.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might notice that I haven’t posted anything for almost two weeks.
I don’t want to be that person who’s like, “Sorry, I’ve been sooooo busy lately and I haven’t had time to post anything!” (I’m not a fan of excuses… but life does get in the way sometimes!)
I’ve been going through some major life transitions lately, and it’s taken me time to adjust. I just moved back to Miami because I accepted a full-time job offer that I’m super excited about!
Work has been going great so far. I love my coworkers, and I actually enjoy going to work. (That is a plus!)
Even so, I’ve been extremely busy since I started my new job. I don’t have time during the day to work on my blog.
So, I got up at 4:30 AM today to start writing this post. Blogging is my passion, and I will make time for it no matter how busy my schedule gets.

The truth is that you have plenty of time!
“I don’t have enough time” is an excuse. Every person on Earth gets 24 hours each day. How you use that time is up to you!
Instead of sleeping in or sitting around doing miscellaneous things (we call that lollygagging in the South), I decided to use my time this morning to work on my blog. I chose to get up wayyyy earlier than normal just so I could write this post.
Yes, I am tired. But I am happy because I’m doing what I love.
I decided to write this article because it’s so relevant to what I’m going through right now. I’m trying to find the perfect balance between work and play. Everyone needs a good work-life balance. And if you don’t have one, you need to create one ASAP to avoid burnout!
Stop saying you don’t have enough time for your passions.
Stop saying you don’t have enough time to do the things you love.
Stop saying you don’t have time to start that business you’ve been dreaming about.
The time is there! You just have to allocate it properly.

Passion projects fuel your soul.
You might be wondering, “Why would I want to do more work in my free time instead of sitting around watching Netflix?”
Well, from my experience I’ve learned that when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work at all!
Blogging creates balance in my life. When I get the opportunity to write, I feel happier and more energized. I gladly carve out time in my day for blogging because it recharges me. Not physically, but emotionally and spiritually.
If you feel stuck in your day-to-day routine, I highly suggest you find a creative hobby or start a passion project. I’ve written a few articles about the benefits of creative hobbies. Check them out if you don’t know where to start:

Honestly, I don’t think I can truly be happy without making time for my blog. Here’s why:
I’ve been blogging since 2016. My first blog was called Style of Change, and I posted on that site between 2016 and 2018.
Then, I took a hiatus from blogging for about a year and a half. During that time, I felt like I didn’t really have direction in life. I got lost in a lifestyle that was party-centric and unhealthy for the most part. I was unhappy.
At the end of 2019, I decided to start my new blog, which is this site!
I’ve been posting here for about 9 months, and I don’t think I’ve ever been happier. I’m in alignment with my purpose in life. I’m not lost anymore.
My point is this: if you don’t make time for the things you love, you’ll feel like something is missing. So, set aside time for your hobbies and passion projects!
Here’s how you can make time for the things you love:
I’m no stranger to a busy schedule. But even during my craziest weeks, I make time to work on my content.
These are my top tips to help you do the same:
1. Set a schedule and stick to it.
Establishing a consistent routine is one of the most fundamental ways to create balance in your life.
Since I just moved and haven’t yet found an apartment in Miami, I’ve been super out of my normal routine. But as soon as I get settled, the first thing I’m going to do is create a schedule I can stick to.
Time blocking is one of my favorite productivity techniques. To use it, all you need to do is assign a specific activity to each 30-minute or 60-minute time block in your day. Pencil in your breaks, meals, self-care time, and passion projects!
At first, you might think that time blocking is only for people who don’t like to have fun. But that is a complete misconception and couldn’t be further from the truth!
In fact, time blocking will create more time for you to have fun and do the things you love.
It helps you set boundaries with your work so your professional responsibilities don’t bleed into your downtime or passion project time.
2. Wake up earlier or stay up later.
I prefer waking up early because I have more uninterrupted time for myself in the morning. By getting up way earlier than everyone else, I can count on having time to create content in the morning before work.
Now, I know mornings aren’t for everyone. (I have friends who would sleep in until 2 PM every day if they could!)
If you hate getting up early, you could also try to make more time for yourself in the evening. The key is to find a time block in your day that will be 100 percent dedicated to your hobby or passion project.
Avoid interruptions, and try not to let anything interfere with your personal time. Even if you can only dedicate 30 minutes or an hour to doing what you love daily, that’s better than a random 2-hour time block once a month!
3. Rethink your priorities.
Like I mentioned earlier, there are only 24 hours in the day. By setting priorities, you make time for the things that are important to you.
If you don’t love your life, ask yourself why. Are you living passively, letting the days pass you by? Do you spend 10 hours a day in a job you dislike?
Living a fulfilling life is my number one priority. Yes, there are other things that I want to do, like making money or falling in love.
But above all, I’m focused on creating a life I love, and that doesn’t necessarily equate to being the richest woman in the world or getting married by 30.
I feel most fulfilled when I’m creating content and sharing it with the world. That’s why I’ve been dragging myself out of bed at 4:30 AM to work on my blog.
I push myself to make time for my blog, even when it feels impossible to. You should do the same. Set priorities in a way that will create a happy and fulfilling life for you.
4. Spend less time doing things that don’t make you happy.
Don’t waste time on things that don’t fuel your soul.
If you simply don’t have time to do the things you love, something’s gotta give. Stay in and work on your passion project instead of getting drunk at brunch with your girlfriends.
Make an extreme life adjustment if you have to. Quit your job. Break up with your significant other. Before you do something wild, make sure you think it through. But if you’re not pleased with your current situation, something needs to be done!
You’re not stuck. There’s always a way to change your life for the better. Remember, time is valuable. You should use it to do the things that make you feel alive instead of wasting away.
5. Learn to put yourself first.
Are you feeling burned out? Are you constantly doing favors for others? Are you overextending your efforts to please other people?
If so, the solution is simple: JUST. PUT. YOURSELF. FIRST.
I promise it’s not selfish. In fact, it’s the only way to truly take charge of your life. It’s okay to say “no” to favors that are outside of your normal responsibilities.
It’s not your job to make everyone else happy. However, it is your job to make YOU happy. You shouldn’t feel guilty about making time for yourself.
So, instead of saying “yes” to every single favor that’s asked of you, learn to say “no” to things that are unimportant or irrelevant to you. Then, you can use the time you saved on your hobbies, passion projects, or other activities you enjoy.
Being a people pleaser is no way to live life. Instead, put yourself first!
