I wouldn’t call my adult self an “avid reader,” although I want to be!

Here’s the thing. I LOVED reading when I was younger. My head was always in a book. But when I sprung into adulthood, other responsibilities took over my life, and reading moved farther down my list of priorities.

Because I don’t read for pleasure often anymore, it takes a really good book for me to take time out of my day to read. However, Dear Universe: 200 Mini-Meditations for Instant Manifestations by Sarah Prout is a book that’s well worth my time.

Why I ordered Dear Universe

Lately, I’ve been educating myself on the art of manifestation and the law of attraction. When I came across Sarah Prout’s content, I was instantly hooked. She has a down to Earth approach to the law of attraction that’s easy to understand, especially for beginners.

I started by participating in Sarah’s 21 Day Manifestation Challenge alongside 5,000+ other challengers. I just completed day 7 of the challenge before I started writing this. Initially, I was surprised at the number of people who signed up, but I soon learned what all the hype was about.

In the challenge, Sarah touches on different spiritual concepts each day, such as the power of gratitude, how to raise your vibration, and meditation basics. At the end of every lesson, she promotes her book, Dear Universe. I decided to look it up on Amazon to learn more about it.

After I saw how affordable the hardcover version of Dear Universe was, I placed my order. It’s also available as an audiobook, but I wanted to get the physical copy. Dear Universe is beautifully designed. It would make an excellent coffee table book.

What is Dear Universe about?

I’ll start by saying that Dear Universe isn’t set up like a traditional book. It’s divided into bite-sized chunks of text.

Even if you don’t like reading, you should consider ordering Dear Universe. You don’t need to commit a lot of time or brainpower to read this book.

Basically, Dear Universe is a book with 200 guided mini-meditations that are sourced from 100 love-based emotions and 100 fear-based emotions.

The meditations are designed to help you embrace positive feelings and rise above negative ones. I would classify Dear Universe as an emotional empowerment book.

Dear Universe is seriously a judgment-free zone. It has mini-meditations to guide you through the highest highs and the lowest lows in life. (And each meditation is super short, like 2 or 3 sentences.)

No matter what you’re struggling with, you can find comfort within Dear Universe. Each mini-meditation is designed to give you a positive, holistic perspective on the emotion that inspired it.

The mini-meditations sourced from love-based emotions are designed to help you celebrate the positive feelings you experience in the present moment.

For example, if you’re feeling “Grateful,” you’d turn to the page that corresponds with that emotion. On each page, there’s a description of the emotion and a mini-meditation to go with it.

I love how Dear Universe acknowledges that life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. The fear-based meditations will help you get through the difficult times in your life. 

When you’re feeling down, you can choose the fear-based emotion that best describes what you’re experiencing. The meditations will comfort you, empower you, and remind you that you are capable of overcoming anything.

Insecurity is something I often struggle with. When I’m feeling “Insecure,” I can turn to the corresponding page in Dear Universe and remind myself that, “I am enough. I am worthy. I am perfect just the way I am in this moment.”

How can Dear Universe help you?

Although you could read this book cover to cover, it’s not really designed to be used that way.

In the intro of the book, Sarah describes it as a “Choose Your Own Adventure story.” The book will meet you where you are in life. It matches your feelings with tailored mini-meditations to guide you on your spiritual journey.

So, when you first get your hands on a copy of this book, think really deeply about how you’re feeling. Then, find the love-based or fear-based feeling that most closely matches your emotions. Read what’s on the page, and recite the meditation.

What happens next is difficult to put into words. And realistically, everyone’s experience with the book will be different.

But from my personal experience, I can say that every time I match my feelings to the emotions in the book and complete the corresponding mini-meditations, I gain a better understanding of myself. I feel more connected to the present moment.

Here’s another cool thing. Under each fear-based emotion, Sarah provides suggestions on love-based emotions to focus on instead. For example, under “Fearful,” the three love-based suggestions are “Brave,” “Guided,” and “Surrendered.”

The idea is to complete the mini-meditation for “Fearful,” and then turn to one of the love-based emotions to channel your energy into something more positive.

Dear Universe is a small, lightweight book that’s easy to carry around with you. I plan to keep it closeby at all times in case I need to reference it.


Dear Universe may NOT be for you if…

I think everyone should give this book a shot, but you have to go into it with an open mind. I do believe in the law of attraction 100%, but I don’t think that’s a requirement to enjoy the book.

Dear Universe is for people who want to be in tune with themselves. If you want to gain a better understanding of your emotions and live a more positive life overall, you should order this book.

However, if you are a closed-minded and judgmental person, this book might disappoint you. Don’t order it with any expectations. You have to suspend initial judgment and give the book a fair chance to benefit from it.

Ask yourself these questions: 

  1. Are you open to all possibilities?
  2. Are you willing to try something new?
  3. Are you ready to change your perspective?

If you answered “yes” to the above questions, Dear Universe will provide you with incredible opportunities for mental and spiritual growth!
