A culture all about self-expression
Anyone who knows me well is aware of how much I love going to music festivals! I go because I enjoy the music, but I also love culture. It welcomes people from all walks of life, and everyone is encouraged to be themselves. Fashion is an important part of many cultures, and the same is true for the festival scene! Many festival goers (including myself) enjoy dressing up and letting their creativity run wild. Today, I’m sharing a tutorial on how you can dye hair extensions to wear on your next festival adventure!
Before the extensions
Step 1: Choose your hair extensions
For this tutorial, I chose to use 18-inch real human hair extensions. I found that the 18-inch ones were the perfect length to blend with my natural hair. I got clip-in ones so I can easily put them in and take them out. When you decide which shade to get for your extensions, remember that the color will show up more vibrant on lighter hair. So if you want the brightest hue, you’ll want to purchase platinum blonde extensions. If you’re going for a more subtle look, you could opt for a dark blonde or light brown. The ones I chose are platinum blonde. Also, you will want to make sure your extensions are real human hair. The color we’re using in this tutorial is not intended for synthetic hair. Human hair extensions are better because you can style them just like your own to get exactly the look you want!
Step 2: Purchase your color and styling products
I went to CVS Pharmacy to get my products. I love how organized the store is. It’s super easy to walk in there and find exactly what I need. The hair color and styling products were located on Aisle 7 in their respective sections.
For this tutorial, I chose to get two different Schwarzkopf® got2b® Metallics colors: Metallic Silver and Blue Mercury. I chose the Metallics line because the colors come out vibrant and bold. Perfect for show stopping festival fashion!
I also picked up the got2b® Glued Spiking Glue. This is the perfect product to finish off your look once you have it the way you want it. It will hold your style in place while you dance all night long!
Step 3: Color your extensions!
got2b® makes it super easy to color your hair or extensions at home. Each got2b® Metallics box comes with instructions, disposable gloves, color cream, an applicator bottle with developer lotion, and color after treatment.
To prep my workspace, I spread a trash bag out onto my bathroom counter to protect it from the color. You’ll want to make sure you cover any surfaces that you don’t want to get stained by the color. It’s also super important to wear disposable gloves to shield your skin from the product. When I was ready to begin coloring, I simply poured the color cream into the applicator bottle that already had the developer lotion in it. Then, I shook it thoroughly to combine the contents of the bottle. I immediately began coloring the hair afterward.
Because I had 10 clip-in pieces, I decided to color five of them Metallic Silver and the other five Blue Mercury. I made sure the hair was saturated with the product. Once I was finished applying the color, I let it develop for 30 minutes.
Finally, I rinsed the extensions out until the water ran clear. I set them aside to air dry.
Step 4: Rock your new look!
To clip in my newly colored extensions, I sectioned my hair into three layers and did two rows of extensions in between. The texture of the extensions blended in really well with the rest of my hair, but if yours don’t, you could easily style them to match. Here’s my finished result!
